As required by the City Charter, the City Attorney serves as general counsel and chief legal advisor to the City Commission, City Manager, all City Departments, and various Boards & Committees.

In addition, the City Attorney’s Office is responsible for all litigation for the City, determining if specialized, outside legal assistance is needed, and coordinating the City’s response and strategy regarding general liability insurance claims brought against the City.
