Open Adult Ping Pong

Tuesdays from 9:00am - Noon and Thursdays from 4:30 - 7:00pm at the Atlantic Recreation Center Auditorium.

The Open Adult Ping Pong program is an open recreational format and does not require a membership.

  • All skill levels welcomed.
  • Loaner paddles and ping pong balls provided.
  • 6 tables; serving machine.
  • For more information, contact Richard Stratton (myeventmusic@icloud.com; 904-321-2239) or Don Hughes (hueser@bellsouth.net; 904-415-0667)
  • Check Facebook at "Fernandina Beach Ping Pong" for weekly updates/photos and any schedule changes.

Rules of play

  • All players must sign in each day they participate.
  • Official ping pong rules and scoring rules shall be followed.  A full set of rules will be at the sign-in table.
  • Matches consist of best 2 out of 3 games to 11 points.  Players shall determine who serves first.  After a player serves twice, the other player gets 2 serves.  This rotation continues until one player has 11 points.  If the score is tied at 10 apiece, then the serve alternates after every point until one player wins the game by having 2 points or more than his/her opponent.
  • Warm-up time is limited to 3 minutes.  Players can choose whether to play or practice.  If they choose to practice, then they can practice for 20 minutes.  The players will then vacate the table if others are waiting to play.
  • Any player can challenge any table by placing his/her paddle next to a table.  This shall not be done in the middle of a point.
  • If multiple players have their paddles waiting for a table, the order will be in the order that the paddles were placed.
  • An individual may only place a challenge paddle at 1 table at a time.
  • If, at the conclusion of a match or practice session, there are 2 paddles waiting to play at the table, and the winning player has won at least 2 matches in a row, then both the winner AND the loser should leave the table, allowing 2 new players to come play.  This ensures that play cycles through more players during busy days.

Etiquette

  • All players are responsible for set-up, break-down, and clean-up in the Atlantic Auditorium.
  • Please be courteous by not obstructing, interrupting, or getting in the way of an active match.  This includes being overly loud, unwanted heckling, or putting a paddle down in the middle of a point.
  • Wait until a point has concluded before placing a paddle or fetching an errant ball.
  • Inappropriate language and actions are not acceptable.  Violators will be cautioned, and continuous violations may result in forfeiting the right to play at the Atlantic Recreation Center.

Playing at the Atlantic Recreation Center is a privilege, and everyone is expected to be respectful of others and exhibit good sportsmanship.
